Be part of this company at the forefront of agriculture and construction, that passionately innovates to drive customer efficiency and success. And we know innovation can’t happen without collaboration. So, everything we do at CNH Industrial is about reaching new heights as one team, always delivering for the good of our customers.
Job Purpose
The objective of a Soil and Crop Modeling (SCM) engineer is to strive for continuous improvement and optimization of the functionality of the products manufactured by CNH. This position will support CNH’s SCM engineering activities, including but not limited to, Crop Production Implements and Tractors. The individual in this position is responsible to build and execute simulations related to productivity and efficiency improvement of crop production equipment (seeders, planters, tillage equipment, sprayers…) and tractors. The individual will travel to the field in order to gain product and functional experience for the sake of improving accuracy and correlation of simulation results. This individual will be responsible to complete multi-physics soil and crop-flow simulation requests, support experiments to validate the models, maintain documention on projects and create simulation standard procedures. The individual will be in close communication with the product development, innovation and validation teams to improve precision of simulations and accelerate the delivery of results. A special focus will be on dust and biomass debris simulation and validation.
Key Responsibilities
• As part of the Soil & Crop Modeling (SCM) team, the candidate will need to cooperate with the internal teams (product development, product validation and innovation) to support the design of new and existing agricultural equipment, especially related to Crop Production and Tractors.
• The candidate will perform simulations of soils and crops being processed by agricultural equipment. The candidate will strive for continuous improvement and optimization of the functionality of these products, which will also include the effect of dust and biomass debris.
• While working closely with every platform to understand the specific objectives of the projects, the candidate will strive to predict the performance of machines as a function of multiple factors (soil/crop/dust/debris properties, working conditions, and loading scenarios) through various types of models (discrete-element method, computational fluid dynamics, analytical, stochastic, or empirical).
• In this position, the candidate will have to review and prepare engineering standards and methodologies to deliver optimum simulations and expand the library of virtual soils and crops through experimental measurement of mechanical crop properties.
Experience Required
• Ph.D. in Agricultural and/or BioChemical Engineering
• A minimum of 2 years of experience relevant to soil and crop modeling and farm equipment product development using Discrete-Element Method (DEM) simulation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation.
• Advanced knowledge of plant biology and soils
• Advanced knowledge of dust and biomass debris properties
• Knowledge of mechanical and air-assisted crop conveyance and cleaning systems used by CNH agricultural equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal Candidate will have:
• Ph.D. in Agricultural and/or BioChemical and/or Bioresources Engineering.
• Hands-on experience with farm equipment products.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to demonstrate the capability to work in cross-functional teams and be a strong individual contributor.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision managing multiple projects and tasks.
• Experience with instrumentation and testing with research apparatus.
• Willingness to travel and participate in field evaluation.
• Knowledge of Python/Matlab, and Creo (or similar CAD software) / TeamCenter are considered assets.
• Ability to interact easily in a team environment.
• Can communicate fluently in English.
